Mysterious and unknow-able magic takes place here. Low humming energy, faint rustle of paper somewhere. You cannot be sure if the magic taught here are benevolent, eccentric, or dangerous... perhaps it is simply reflecting the burden of magical knowledge.
This was a tough one. After some sketches I finally photobased a base. I thought of Blender a base but it would've taken even longer, and I couldn't drag around layer adjustments for lighting easily. After that came color palette - if not the brown wood or slate stone, what else would work in pushing 'magical'? I must have went through a dozen color tests that were never saved. And then comes the lighting.... there's a tinted window and glowing crystals and magical orrery, but it has to look nice, have focus, and not have the entire scene bathed in hot pink clashing with magic blue. In the end the actual designing of, say, the orrery, telescope, etc, was the least of my worries with all those other things going on! For someone who's usually immersed in constructing anatomy or drawing out how prop parts function, this has been a very different perspective, and I am so glad for it!
