The Crystal Dragon is named for the crystal-like formation it carries on its back.
Crystal Dragons live in a barren, black-ish terrain full of rocks and short vegetation that is punctuated periodically by clusters of red crystal formations. They build a lumpy nest stuffed with pieces of shale and dried plants for ventilation, keeping 2 to 3 robin-blue eggs inside. The newly-hatched young rely on the adult to dig them out of this burial nest.
The young are born without any crystals, and it is recently discovered that the adults bring small crystals to place on their young to initiate the growth of their "shell". The crystals continue to grow and cover the Dragon even after the creature's death. It is yet unknown what feeds the crystal's growth, and whether or not it is dependent on the Dragon for survival at all.
